WE STARTED WITH A BELIEF. WE BUILT A FIRM AROUND IT.

Citizens started in 2014 in Myanmar. Two founders. A shared frustration with how the industry separates thinking from making. A conviction that if you design a building, you should know how to build it. And if you build it, you should care about the design.

Ten years later, the firm has grown to nearly 100 people across offices in Singapore, Bangkok, Dubai, Yangon, and China, and Riyadh (opening soon). The projects now span Southeast Asia, the Middle East, China, Mexico, and Madagascar. More than 200 projects, and more than 250,000 square meters of built work.

The conviction has not changed. We design for people, and we build what we design. We do both with the precision that comes from caring about the difference between good and good enough.

Design and Build as One Discipline

In a conventional project, the architect designs, the contractor builds, and the gap between them is where quality gets lost. We closed that gap. At Citizens, architects and engineers work side by side from day one. Builders weigh in on material choices before documentation starts. We build what we design, exactly as we designed it.

Global Capability, Local Intelligence

We have delivered projects in Thailand, Myanmar, China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Mexico, and Madagascar. Every new geography teaches us something. But we do not parachute in with a formula. We study the market, understand the supply chain, learn the construction culture, and adapt our process to deliver the same standard of work in Yangon as we do in Riyadh.

Craft That Scales

Our co-founder trained as a master cabinetmaker. That mentality shapes the firm. We care about the joint, the edge, the way light catches a material at a specific angle. But we also deliver 250,000 square meter master plans. The discipline scales because it is built into our process, not dependent on a single pair of hands.

Our clients are multinational corporations, hospitality groups, developers, and private individuals who expect both creative quality and professional reliability. We give them both.

THE FOUNDERS

Pierre S. Mounier

Co-Founder and Creative Director

Pierre S. Mounier is the Co-Founder and Creative Director of Citizens. Trained in cabinet making at Compagnons du Devoir and in interior architecture at École Boulle in Paris, he approaches architecture through a deep understanding of craft, structure, and material.

In 2012, he moved to Myanmar to explore new contexts for his work, combining French craftsmanship with local materials and building traditions. Before co-founding Citizens in 2014, Pierre also served as Managing Director and Factory Director of Wah Lein Furniture Factory in Myanmar, further strengthening his connection between design and manufacturing.

Since founding Citizens, Pierre has designed and delivered more than 200 projects internationally, and today he leads a team of designers working across multiple countries. Pierre's work is defined by the integration of design, engineering, and construction into a single process that carries ideas from concept to realisation.

In 2022, he was recognised with the Culture & Art of Living Award at the French-ASEAN Awards, honouring his contribution to design and cultural exchange in the region.

THE TEAM BEHIND THE WORK

Citizens is led by its founders and supported by a senior team of architects, engineers, project directors, and production managers, many of whom have been with the firm for years. They stay because the work is challenging, the culture values skill, and they can see their ideas get built.
