AIA LIFE INSURANCE MYANMAR

Designed for focus. Built for connection.

“The workplace expresses the AIA brand through spatial experience rather than graphic application.”

Context

A workplace beyond function.

AIA Life Insurance Myanmar was developed across two phases between 2020 and 2024, transforming a fragmented office into a connected workplace environment in the heart of downtown Yangon.

The project was never approached as a conventional corporate office. AIA’s values around wellbeing, trust, and reflection became the foundation for how the space would feel, function, and evolve over time. Rather than relying on overt branding, the design focused on creating an environment where identity is expressed through architecture, materiality, light, and spatial experience.

Design Intent

Expressing identity through space.

The design balances openness with restraint. Raw concrete, matte black steel, mirrored surfaces, and controlled accents of red create a spatial language that feels grounded, calm, and intentional.

A key principle throughout the project was reflection, both physical and emotional. Sculptural mirrored installations were integrated around structural elements, transforming functional columns into moments of interaction and pause. Open-plan collaboration areas were carefully balanced with quieter zones, allowing the workplace to support focus, movement, and connection throughout the day.

Development

Design and execution moving together.

The workplace was originally developed in separate phases, requiring the new intervention to unify the office into a single coherent environment. Spatial flow, acoustic performance, lighting, and material consistency were considered together throughout the process.

Architecture, interior design, furniture, project management, and construction evolved as one integrated system. This allowed design decisions to remain clear from concept through execution while maintaining precision across detailing and fabrication. Brand expression was approached with restraint, allowing the environment itself to communicate identity without relying on graphic application or visual excess.

Outcome

Built around people and performance.

Today, the AIA Myanmar Headquarters functions as more than a workplace. It is an environment designed to support clarity, wellbeing, and everyday interaction.

The completed office balances collaboration with calm, creating spaces that feel open without becoming overwhelming. Materials, light, acoustics, and circulation work together to support how people move, work, and connect throughout the day. The result is a workplace that reflects the values of the brand through lived experience rather than visual statement.
